Adult Program
As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I provide evaluation, diagnosis and treatment; and consultation with other professionals in speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders.
Often adults need the services of a speech-language pathologist to overcome various communication challenges.
I help men and women restore their speech and verbal expression by managing disorders such as:
- Aphasia: an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write; most commonly due to a stroke but may also arise from head trauma, brain tumours, or infections.
- Apraxia: a motor speech disorder caused by damage to parts of the brain related to speech
- Dysarthria: a motor speech disorder affecting mouth, face and respiratory muscles
- Cognitive-communication disorder: when someone is experiencing difficulties in attention, memory, reasoning, insight, initiation, planning, organization and social skills
- Swallowing disorders: also known as dysphagia, where individuals experience problems with eating and drinking
- Articulation disorders: when individuals exhibit signs of omitting, substituting, or distorting sounds
- Voice Disorders: (e.g., volume, pitch, hoarseness) may be due to damage from surgery, disease, vocal abuse, etc.; I also offer Transgender Voice Therapy
- Stuttering or dysfluency: either developmental or acquired
Speech-Language Pathology services are covered by many medical plans; receipts will be given for each session attended. I also work with organizations such as R.C.M.P and Veteran’s Affairs Canada. Feel free to ask me any questions you have about funding or payment.
